Last-minute Ball Gown Options

Here I am, ready for the ball!

Okay, maybe I am just ready for the preparations for the ball. (Isn't that sweater adorable? Just got it on sale at LOFT during their 40% off sale prices sale. Love the color and how cozy it is.)

I am still wavering on attending -- heading out to get my nails painted cherry red so I will decide after that -- but I've been trying on all my options for accessories for the gown this morning. Internet, dress me!

Selection #1: SHOES

These gorgeous, but perhaps too tall BP Twirls:

Or these more serviceable, correct-height Naturalizers:

I am leaning toward the Naturalizers as the height feels more appropriate and they are more comfortable. But damn, those Twirls are hot.

Selection #2 NECKLACES

I heard your suggestions for dangly earrings and a cuff, but I wasn't too keen on the idea (my ears have enough crap going on with them between my glasses and my hearing aids so I don't like to draw attention to them), and I was too sick these week to do any jewelry-shopping anyway. So we are choosing between pieces I already own.

Pearls, worn long and knotted once:

Pearls, worn higher-up and triple-knotted:

Gold shiny necklace at neck:

Selection #3: Bags

Pretty all-gold soft bag from friend, or new hard-case black-and-gold sparkly bag from Nordstrom:

What do you guys think?
#1: SHOES
#2: Necklaces
#3: Bags

I am leaning toward the Naturalizers, pearls up at neck, and the all-gold bag. But I am bringing all with me, and I may stop at the little consignment store next to the nail salon right now to see if they have anything else that cries out to me. A lot will depend on my hair and makeup when that is all done.

So now I am headed out for:
-mani-pedi in OPI Flick Chick Cherry Red
-perusing the consignment store for last minute inspiration
-possible stop at Von Maur to see if they have the same Naturalizers a half-size bigger
-1pm style and blowout
-possible stop at Nordstrom to the Laura Mercier counter for some makeup assistance
-off to the ball!

Or, I may just have the mani-pedi and come home and collapse in defeat from pneumonia. Cross your fingers it's not that!

  1. I like the purse you bought, the lower heels, and I am divided on the necklaces. Maybe you will find something when you are out? I hope you feel better and have a great time!

  2. I'm coming out of my lurking...
I think the dress is gorgeous and doesn't need much ornamentation. So my choices would be
    The Naturalizer shoes.
The gold necklace - or none.
    The hard case purse.
    Now GO and have fun!

  3. I'd wear the shoes that are most comfortable so you can have fun dancing.

I think either necklace at the neck would be my choice. The long pearls and the boobs don't seem quite right to me.

I like the two toned bag but the all gold is good too.

  4. Naturalizer shoes, gold necklace, all gold bag. Go to the ball and have a blast!

  5. I like the way you did the pearls at the neckline, but think a different color would be better? I'd pick the more comfortable of the shoes, but you do seem to LOVE the look of the other ones, and this IS a ball, and you want to feel spectacular, so maybe go with the hot Twirls! Bag - I like the one with black and gold. shoot, maybe you should go with the gold necklace, then.

Any case, have a lovely pampering day and enjoy the ball - can't wait to see what you finally ended up going with!

  6. Naturalizer shoes for sure, triple knotted pearls look so elegant, either bag is great, but I love the two toned one.

Rest up today and have a great time tonight!

    Love,
    Kate

  7. You look so gorgeous, and I know whatever you choose you'll look wonderful! I think it would be perfect with the Naturalizer shoes, no necklace (I think the top of the dress is just so beautiful on its own that anything else at the neck would compete with it), and the hardcase clutch!

I hope you have such a great time tonight :)

  9. Naturalizer shoes (for comfort), I like the pearls at neck or none (although I think I'd be more comfortable with something at the neck if I were wearing the dress), and maybe a sparkly black clutch if you can find it????

Honestly, that dress is just gorgeous. I hope you don't wear yourself running around and can just enjoy the ball :)

  10. The Naturalizers (I used to have that same pair in bronze!), the pearls at the neck and the hard clutch.

You look freakin' gorgeous! You're going to blow people away with your fabulousity!

  11. Naturalizer shoes (the other pair makes the dress seem just a tad too short), gold necklace (it harmonizes so well with your haircolor and your glasses), black-and-gold bag (the hard case creates a good contrast to the softer, curvier outlines of the dress). You look fabulous!

So, I won't comment. I will just wait patiently to see if 1. you went and 2. what you chose!

  13. It's Shiny coming out of lurk mode. You look fabulous! What a stunning dress! I like the hard case bag. Not sure on the necklaces... but can you please explain how you got the pearls to knot like that? I want to learn that trick!!

  14. Hey, I'm obviously late to the party, so no vote or anything, but I can't wait to see how the whole ensemble turned out! Hair and all. SOO sorry you were not feeling the best for the night and for your BIRTHDAY!!? Happy belated bday, sweetie.
I hope you held up ok, thank you meds, and could enjoy the ball.

Is that the same strand of long pearls worn 2 ways? If so, can you show us one of your wonderful tutorials? I have seen ways to use ribbon, but you clearly didn't do that.
