Fall...transition?

Everyone on planet Earth seems to believe that it is suddenly fall. Just because kids are going back to school doesn't make the calendar actually move faster; it is still only mid-August. Thank goodness the warmer weather returned to remind us that summer still has some life in her yet.

That said, I realized that it might be time to make some minor adjustments to my outfits, to start to ease slowly into the concept of cooler weather. Thus the new sandals; the brightly-colored ones that have served me so well are starting to look a little out of place with some of my outfits, so I picked up this pair on sale at Zappos in a darker, mushroom shade. Funny how such a small change can change the flavor of an outfit.

(Mid August, early August, July.)

These are Indigo by Clarks Finch (of course, I love my Clarks). I was a little unsure when I unpacked them, but I love the straps in front, especially the velcro bits on the top strap that you can adjust. And the color is great for a fall transition: dark but not too dark, neither black nor brown but that goes with both. (Color is darker in real life than in photo below.)

Daily Food Tracker: Wednesday
Breakfast: frittata
Lunch: bowtie pasta with marinara and ground beef, wheat roll, cucumber salad, 2 cookies (at buffet for class)
Dinner: crab cake appetizer, grilled romaine salad with gorgonzola, glazed walnuts and champagne vinaigrette, cucumber gin drink (out with Shopping Friend)
Snack: the last of the Girl Scout shortbreads, skim milk

Two meals out, which is so tough. Once I indulged in the pasta at lunch, I knew I had to make the better choice at dinner, but boy I did not want to! Luckily the salads at Yard House are excellent, and the appetizers can be a good option if you pick the right ones. The crab cakes gave me the protein the salad lacked, and were tasty to boot.

Tonight is another night out, so off I go to pack myself a lunch. I'm finally back in my office today. Familiar surroundings and best of all, a fridge. :)

  1. I saw some dried leaves on the ground this morning and immediately thought, "Yay! Fall is coming!", but then I realized they were probably just cooked from the sun and high temperatures we're having. :( I'm not sure who declared that Labor Day signals 'the end of summer' because I know there will be high temps around here until October!

What a great color on those sandals!

  2. I know it's still only August, but I guess so many people around me are on academic timelines, it's hard to not get sucked into thinking it's fall. It is amazing what a difference shoes make! That's such an easy way to make the transition.
