I bought this top full-price at Nordstroms back in April because a) it was red, and b) it was a size small. My first EVER. Who could resist?
And now...it's a little big, but that only makes me happier.

ReplyDeleteYou are such an ace at proportions! The hemline of the skirt and top just *work* with the belt. Are there any proportions concepts that help you figure out what will work, or do you just figure it out from experimenting?

P.S. I just realized that I *totally* copy-catted you again. I tried on a bunch of dresses at NAS and came home with the Classiques Entier sheath. ReplyDeleteKari, thanks! Honestly, figuring out proportions just comes down to trial-and-error for me. I keep reading Imogen's and Angie's blogs about where tops should hit, and it never sinks into my noggin; should tops sit higher for skirts or for pants? I can never remember. Instead, I make judicious use of my mirror, and I find that reviewing the photos I take before I go out helps with figuring out if something is working or not.
This particular outfit I had been avoiding putting together because I *hadn't* thought of wearing a belt, and the top and skirt alone were not working at all. But once the belt idea hit, I knew I had it.
HEEEEE, so funny that you ended up with the samee sheath! But it's not surprising; we have similar body types, and very similar styles. Of course we would be drawn to the same pieces! :)
