Anniversary Weekend: Friday

We are back from a lovely weekend staying in downtown Chicago. As much as we enjoy traveling, we also like spending time in our city too, and we tend to spend a couple of weekends a year living it up in a posh hotel, enjoying the sights, and eating well. For our fifteenth anniversary, we did just that.

We stayed at the Drake this trip, which was our first time there. Such a lovely old hotel!








We headed down on Friday night, just in time to meet for dinner at Weber Grill. It's one of my favorite restaurants; they cook almost everything on giant grills! They were out of my "signature" dish, the meatloaf, so I tried a seasonal dish: autumnal squash pizza. It was amazing.




Also amazing: their side dish of grilled Brussel sprouts with onions and bacon.



After dinner, we walked up Michigan Avenue, checking out the window displays. They're just as beautiful as night as they are in daylight.

Pretty bar we passed. I like to imagine patron's lives in places like this. Are they meeting someone for a first date? Drinking alone after a long week?

There was a really lovely tribute to Steve Jobs in front of the Apple store. People left flowers, and notes, and apples!






My favorite note was: "I will always Think Different."

The Apple logo on the side of the building was also decorated with tributes.





The Water Tower is one of the few building that survived the Chicago Fire. It's kind of amazing to see against the modern skyscrapers next to it. That's the John Hancock Tower behind it.






My husband dryly noted when he saw this display at Louis Vuitton, "Oh, so that's where shoes come from." He is the funniest.
